About Us

The Bloomsbury Media Cloud is a digital repository developed for the Bloomsbury Colleges ( Birkbeck, Institute of Education, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Royal Veterinary College, School of Pharmacy and SOAS). The service came about as a result of a project funded by JISC; for more information, visit www.bloomsbury.ac.uk/cloud.

This innovative shared platform (based on the open source facility, MediaCore) is hosted in the cloud and offers a quick and easy place for staff to manage and share media content (e.g. video and audio files). This service builds on the existing Bloomsbury Learning Environment collaboration.

The Media Cloud can be used to compile, encode and store multimedia content so it can be managed in one place and flexibly disseminated. It can be used with new and existing content from a wide range of sources, which can be encoded into almost any file format. From the Media Cloud, content can be easily embedded free of any branding.

The Media Cloud can be used in many ways e.g. by academics who wish to embed videos into their blogs or websites; publicity departments that want to publish promotional videos on the web; research groups who need to disseminate podcasts of their works.
